Lapse of right of residence

Your right of residence may lapse if the conditions on which your registration certificate was granted no longer apply.

This may for instance be the case if you are no longer in employment or if in other ways you no longer provide for yourself.

If you have been granted permanent right of residence, your right of residence will normally only lapse if you leave Denmark.

However, right of residence may always be cancelled if it has been obtained through fraud.

If the basis of your residence in Denmark changes, you must always get a new registration certificate. If, for instance, you have been given a registration certificate because you are a student and you wish to remain in Denmark in order to work, you must apply for a new registration certificate.
